Welcome to my personal website!

I am Alexandros Roniotis, a software engineer living in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, currently working in the public primary Educatipon as IT Teacher. I love working with my small students in robotics, internet safety projects and block programming.

In the past, I have worked as a Research Fellow at the Computational Medicine Laboratory (CML), Institute of Computer Science (ICS), Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and in the TEI of Heraklion. My research interests involved biomedical informatics and mathematics, medical imaging, in silico simulation of biological processes, tumor growth modeling and developing numerical methods for PDE solving. I have also worked with digital signal processing and pattern recognition.

Parallel to my research, I got involved in Website and Application Development for external customers. I also own a website about the Greek island of Crete, cretanbeaches.com, which is today the most popular tourist guide about Crete. I have also published two editions about the beaches of Crete called Blue Crete.

I co-owned a small startup company called DigiExplore which has launched the application My Crete Guide for smart devices, ranked first in Google and Apple stores among all apps about Crete. The company also got involved in content editing for external customers, such as the Region of Crete and the shipping company Minoan Lines.
